Bangor Chiefs crowned league champions | January 25
The Bangor Chiefs were presented with the 2016/17 BIPHA Northern Ireland senior league title this past Sunday (23rd January). The Chiefs went into the game day knowing 2 wins from their 3 games on the day was enough to secure their first league title since the inaugural league season in 2005. A 10:5 victory in their first game of the day gave them the opportunity to secure the title against East Coast Blaze. ECB went into this game on a 3 game winning streak and high on confidence. In a tight entertaining game throughout ECB eventually got the go ahead goal with minutes remaining and managed to inflict the Chiefs first defeat of the season in a 7:5 game. The Chiefs did not have long to wait however, and in their third game of the day they took full charge defeating the Northern Cyclones 9:3 to secure the league trophy with 2 league games still to play.
Team captain Darren Snel was presented with the senior trophy after the game and the league is delighted to hear the Chiefs fully intend to represent our league at this summers BIPHA UK Nationals. With 1 regular season league day remaining (Feb 5th) attention now moves to league cup round robin positions and playoff positions.
